2021-2022 ESSER III/SIIP At-a-Glance

Background: The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) is a federal grant which requires that spending be used in specific areas. Part of the Fairfax County Public Schools spending plan identifies funding to be used for Unfinished Learning and Student Academic and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (Wellness) Needs. Schools have been given funding allocations to support the academic and wellness needs of students. Schools are required to create plans in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Wellness highlighting the strategies they will use to support these areas using their ESSER III funding. These strategies are shown below.
ESSER III English Language Arts Strategies
Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts.
Strategy 1
Increase work with PCL/CLT to evaluate student need for English Language Arts intervention; provide access to Professional Development
Strategy 2
Expand intervention and remediation opportunities for students
Strategy 3
Increase family/home engagement
ESSER III Mathematics Strategies
Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.

Background: All Fairfax County schools are also required to complete an access and opportunity goal as part of their School Innovation and Improvement Plan (SIIP) and can also capture additional goals. These are shown below.
Access & Opportunity End of Year SMARTR Outcome
Goal: 100% of students will have regular access to meaningful learning opportunities to authentically identify, practice, and build POG skills. In grades K and 1, students will focus on reflection of POG skills; and in grades 2 - 6, students will participate in POG POL
Strategy 1
Instruction at all grade-levels includes explicit POG instruction within innovative pedagogy such as PBL and PBAs.
Strategy 2
Student growth will be measured by K-1 Self-Assessments & Teacher Scoring Guides and by Grades 2-6 POG POL
Student Achievement End of Year SMARTR Outcome
Goal: Crossfield will achieve an overall Reading SOL pass rate of 90%.
Strategy 1
CLT discourse to be focused Instructional Delivery that differentiates for individual student needs as well as grade-level curriculum expectations.
Strategy 2
MTSS Decision-making team to further support students identified to have a greater need.
Strategy 3
Analyze and utilize data from the DSA (Developmental Spelling Assessment) to inform word study instruction in grades 1-6.
Caring Culture End of Year SMARTR Outcome
Goal: Families and students will be provided with opportunities to attend at least 4 community-building activities/events. (Once per quarter)
Strategy 1
Assemblies, special programs, and speakers reflect the diversity of the school and bring a diverse set of ideas and experiences.
Strategy 2
Targeted SEL Lessons based on SEL Screener and Teacher Observation Data.
