Understanding Portrait of a Graduate
Portrait of a Graduate (POG) is FCPS’ commitment to ensuring that all students have the skills to be successful in all aspects of life today, tomorrow and in the future. FCPS' new strategic plan uses POG as a set of measures for our students reaching the goals of academic growth and excellence along with leading tomorrow’s innovation. POG is broken down into 5 important attributes: Communicator, Collaborator, Ethical & Global Citizen, Creative & Critical Thinker, and Goal-Directed & Resilient Individual.
Students use these skills in all school subjects, at home, in the community, with hobbies and interests, in future careers, passions, and relationships.
How will students build these skills?
- Learn about the skills, including what they look and sound like, and why they are important
- Practice the skills as they learn in their classes
- Reflect on HOW they have grown and WHY POG skills are important.
How can schools and families intentionally and purposefully partner and prepare students for this rapidly changing, increasingly diverse, and interconnected world?
Our schools will provide opportunities to practice POG in authentic ways. Families can share and discuss with students how they use POG skills in their daily lives. Some great questions to talk to your students more deeply about school are:
- What did you share?
- What did you get better at?
- What new ideas did you come up with?
- Who did you work with?
